E-Commerce on the simpler side

Most people who have ever spent more than a little time on the Internet have thought of operating an online store at some point or another.  The main hurdle for most would be store owners is the incredible number of options in this area.  There are open source shopping systems, simple shopping cart additions to other platforms, extremely expensive professional solutions (with great support) and then there are hosted solutions, meaning that someone else handles all of the setup and maintenance of the system itself for you, leaving you to handle the day-to-day sales process.

If I were still in the business of designing web sites for a living, my suggestion for first time store owners would be the latter of these choices.  Migrating to a dedicated solution later in the game is pretty easy for most developers to handle, and you’ve already had a chance to test the waters without a massive cash outflow.

Of the hosted shopping cart solutions I have seen and worked with, Ashop Commerce is one of the best, with a complete set of tools and prices starting at about $50.00 us per month (plus a setup fee.)  honestly, if you aren’t making over $50.00 per month within about 5 months, you were better off than you would be paying someone $1,000.00 to get a cart up and running in the first place.
