It starts with an idea. It's what you do with that idea that matters

I’ve been interested in reading Louis L’Amour ever since on of my professors in grad school talked about him. I do enjoy Agatha Christie though! Thanks for the suggestions!
Tolkien will always be my favourite, but I agree on 5, 11, 12 and 13 too!
My TT lists the 13 goals of a witch, with my thoughts on them.
Numbers 1, 5 and 10 would certainly make my top authors list. Welcome to TT.
Interesting list! I’ve read 6 of the 13.
I read lots of Louis L’Amour growing up. He and Zane Grey were my faves.
Wow! I rarely see Louis L’Amour on a favorite author list (that remarkable in itself). My dad has a huge collection of his books as well as Zane Grey. Great list!
I haven’t heard of many of those writers, but I do enjoy Tolkien and McCaffrey. I haven’t read a Christie book since high school, but she’s an excellent choice as well.
I’m with you on #s 1, 10 & 11
Yea for Agatha Christie!
so many of my favourites here (1, 5, 10 – 13)! encouragement, perhaps, to read some of the others … special thanks for bringing mark twain to mind – a connecticut yankee is one of my all-time favourite reads
happy tt and welcome!
Haven’t heard of some of these, others I totally agree with
like Tolkien.
Happy T13
Different strokes…my list would be a little chick-ish, I guess…Margaret Atwood, Joyce Carol Oates, Anne Lamott.
Ha! I made the 13th post on my T13! How Kool is that!
Ctina,
My favorite authors are great storytellers, Heinlein and L’Amour are great tale-weavers, and incredible reads. I’ve read every single tale either man ever wrote.
Tink,
Great authors all, with wonderful stories!
Mark,
I think I smell a Sci-Fi fan in the house. I’m glad to be here.
dew,
That’s pretty impressive. Of course, with so many on the list no longer with us, you can polish off their entire body of work given time. Heinlein alone took me over three years to get through, L’Amour took a solid year, but my father already had the entire collection, and I’m still trying to catch up with Niven.
Wylie,
I can’t agree on Zane … His writing style just didn’t suit me.
Missy,
L’Amour inspired me in a lot of ways, If the list had been in order the authors affected me, he’d be #2
Cordia,
Most on the list are the older generation of Science-Fiction. The Masters, if you will. A group that included Heinlein, Asimov, Niven, Pohl, Saberhagen, “doc” smith and others.
Janet,
They’re good-uns!
Michelle,
Agatha was a wonderful writer. I could read Marple and Poirot all-day-long, every-day.
ravaj,
You’re quite welcome! He made the list both for the Connecticut Yankee and for the fact that I was awed, even as a young reader by the social commentary in his works
Fence,
There’s links to all, and all are good reads!
Di,
Well, I’m not much of a chick… So reading chick-ish stuff doesn’t happen all that often.
I may use this list topic mysel next week. Good one.
Those were some of my faves also. I love books! They have always been my best friends.
