Really. I just noticed (again) that I can’t search blogger powered blogs through Blogger itself if I’m logged in.

What were they thinking???

I mean, it’s bad enough that you’re stuck with a system that, even after their much touted upgrade, doesn’t begin to compare with other blogging platforms. It’s not enough that permalinks are cryptic, or that on most blogger powered blogs, the commenting system is so screwed up that you can’t even tab through the form. (A hint for the blogger programmers, it’s known as taborder… it’s an old-skool html tag that’s still valid, and goes in an input type tag… Use it!)

I say this because I’ve been hinting something that I found on blogger a while back, but I’m having a devil of a time finding it, since my GMail notifyer keeps logging me back in, and then I can’t get to the search functions anymore…

Now I’m off to log out of GMail again and see if I can find what I’m after before it logs me in again.

It’s amazing that I haven’t gotten around to posting anything in this personal little space of mine. Things have been happening all over the place, but I’ve neglected this part of my life for a long, long time.

Maybe it’s that Cooking, by the seat of my Pants! has taken over a very large part of my life. I spend at least an hour a day doing something over there. Maybe it’s the work I’ve been doing trying to get Spunpuppy up and running… I’m not sure.

What I am sure about is that I’ve ignored my personal journal completely, and I’ve got to get back into the swing of things.

For those of you who’ve never popped in, What I write here are things that inspire me, fire me up or make me go Hmmmm? There will be posts ranging from how to make a buck online, why company “x” sucks, the WTF’s of the world, and anything else. From “the baby said Daddy!” (which hasn’t happened yet.) News on the children I’m not fortunate enough to be able to be with all the time, and ramblings of little or no consequence.

It’s got me under pressure

Doctor visits, labs, constant hassles and medication that doesn’t seem to be doing its job. Those are pretty much the high points of the last week.

I ended up in the hospital for a respiratory illness, then following up with a doctor on base for high blood pressure. Tests were run, and I’m thankful to say that aside from the blood pressure issues, I seem to be pretty damned healthy. Unfortunately, the blood pressure is still extremely high.

normal blood pressure is something around 120/80, Mine is averaging 133/100, but the lower number (Diastolic pressure) has shot up to as high as 109, just today. (for those who don’t know, that’s dangerous.)

So now I wait on the doc, who didn’t want to see it go over 90, to see if I need to go back in for another appointment, or if she can just change my medication and have my wife bring it home.

Apparently I have nothing personal on my mind. Otherwise I would have written something here in the past months. Pretty disturbing, really.

Actually there’s been a lot going on. A lot of thing that I’d love to take the time to rant about, just ponder the thought of, etc… The problem is that I’ve been buried up to my neck in deadlines. My food blog has been eating up more and more of my time as I prepare for the grand re-launch somewhere between today and January11th of next year.

No, but the new design is so radically different that it’s requiring a lot of time to get everything ready. The main page alone has at least one component that’s going to require me to post there once per day, or at least to have daily posts on a subject ready to publish everyday. Either way, that’s 365 posts that have to be done per year, without fail, no excuses. Granted, they’re short posts and I can probably do 10 to 20 in one day, but they still have to be done. And for the moment they have to be done every year, at lest until I build a plugin to handle it.

but I digress….

I’m building a schedule for myself that should get me back to posting here at least every other day, so if you’re one of the 3 people who’s stopped by in the past few months, be warned. It’s going to get lively around here pretty soon!

We’re Moving!

The decision has been made, we’re moving to base housing within the next two months. It’s kind of exciting, really. I’m not much of a fan of moving, but this move will definitely benefit us in both the short and long run.

There are things I’m going to miss about living here. I’ll miss the lake in my back yard, and watching the ducks, geese and beavers in the morning. I’ll miss the 10 foot ceilings and the fireplace. I’ll miss my downstairs neighbors, who have always been extremely nice, and who’s children I adore.

I won’t miss the electric range or the toilets that you’ve got to fiddle with to get to flush. I won’t miss the extremely cheap vinyl tiles that keep coming up, or the kitchen counters that haven’t been level in more years than I can count. I won’t miss the windows that I can barely fight open, and the noise of an apartment complex that comes pouring in if I have managed to get them open.

There will be challenges in base housing as well, I’m sure. But it’s time for a move, and I’m pretty happy about it. Lucky for us I used to be a professional mover, and I can have this whole house packed up in about a week all by myself.

You may recognize the title of this entry as being from The Rhyme of the Ancient Mariner. It’s not a literal thing, I’m not lost at sea, nor am I thirsty, but it’s the way my project load feels right now.

I just took over as managing editor for Enchanted Ramblings, an online magazine that started its life as a home for fledgling Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers. Since its inception however, a horde of problems has plagued the thing, including narcissism, hubris, complete lack of focus, and inside bickering. The only way to clean it up was to go in and take over, and when i discovered that the domain hadn’t been paid and was about to be turned off for lack of payment, that’s exactly what I did.

If you know the place, don’t go looking for changes right this second. We’re still trying to consolidate staff, purpose and pecking order, let alone spark the phoenix to rise from the embers of a dying concept.

And don’t look at me like I’m a complete mercenary. My wife was one of the founding members of ER, and has been since before we were married. This move was made because I saw the potential for something wonderful, and because I’ll fight like you’ve never seen me fight to make sure that her idea doesn’t die.

Where does that leave me?

With 80 mb of pure html chaff, all of which needs to be turned into a dynamic, easy to use, easy to maintain site. And that site now needs to pay me back the money I just dumped into it, after never having made a penny…

Yeah, I’m bitter, but I’m excited too. If I can pull it out of the nose dive, it’ll work this time. There was never a doubt
