Who doesn’t love chocolate?

Friday, December 14th, 2007

Can you think of anyone who wouldn’t want a box of chocolates? I’d be hard pressed to. I don’t know many people that don’t like chocolate, and of the people I know that do (and that’s most of them), many have started moving into the realm of gourmet chocolates over your basic grocery store bar chocolate bar.

So, it’s the holidays, you need a gift, or maybe just some energy for an all night writing session. Grab a box of chocolates from Fannie May Candies, wrap it up, or just nibble s you write. It’s a better boost than coffee. (But best served with coffee in my opinion.) Just make sure not to smudge your keyboard while munching chocolate truffles.

Business cards to promote your blog

Thursday, November 29th, 2007

I’ve been toying with the idea of getting some business cards for my different blogs. Up until now, that concept was on the back burner, but as of today, I think I’m going to go ahead and get some. Oorprint is offering 100 FREE business cards for bloggers, including their Web 2.0 series, which includes a tag cloud at the bottom. All you pay is shipping and handling for 100 cards you can passs out when discussing a topic that turns to your blog. (and don’t they all?)

My personal favorite is a shocking orange number, but since i don’t own a shocking orange blog, I suppose I’ll have to pick something else. Ah well.

Check them out!

Coundown to NaNo - 8 days to go

Wednesday, October 24th, 2007

National Novel Writing month is only eight days away. Are you ready? Do you have your brain food stocks up to the necessary level? Cheese nips, Doritos, pretzels, chips or whatever it is that you snack on while writing, there should be a stack of ‘em next to your desk by now.

How about beverages?  For me it’s easy.  I just move the coffee maker to a small table beside my desk and I’m good to go.  If you’re the soda or Mountain Dew type, you might want to go out and buy a small cooler and a few bags of ice.  Anything that makes you get up from your writing can kill your daily word count.

30 fevered days of writing with a goal of 50,000 words, that’s what we’re shooting for here.  Will I see your name on the list?

Take a break and play for a minute.

It’s going to come as no surprise to anyone who writes that every now and then you just have to take a break. Well, if it’s break time I’ve got a suggestion for a mental diversion for you. Just take a trip over to the whogets.com online game show and enter a contest for a chance to win some really nifty stuff.

Prizes include electronics, DVD’s, clothing and more. The interesting part of all of it is that to win, you’ve got to convince the other players to vote you in, which means, my dear writers, that you have a leg up on the competition!

So take a break that will exercise your writing skills as well!

The Ultimate Rejection Letter

Friday, June 1st, 2007

Herbert A. Millington
Chair - Search Committee
412A Clarkson Hall, Whitson University
College Hill, MA 34109

Dear Professor Millington,

Thank you for your letter of March 16. After careful consideration, I
regret to inform you that I am unable to accept your refusal to offer me
an assistant professor position in your department.

This year I have been particularly fortunate in receiving an unusually
large number of rejection letters. With such a varied and promising field
of candidates, it is impossible for me to accept all refusals.

Despite Whitson’s outstanding qualifications and previous experience in
rejecting applicants, I find that your rejection does not meet my needs at
this time. Therefore, I will assume the position of assistant professor
in your department this August. I look forward to seeing you then.

Best of luck in rejecting future applicants.

Sincerely,
Chris L. Jensen
